Taiwan May unemployment rate up slightly

Taiwan had 466,000 jobless citizens in May 2012,equivalent to an unemployment rate of 4.12%which rose 0.02pp on month but fell 0.15pp on year,according to statistics released by the Directorate-General of Budget,Accounting and Statistics(DGBAS)on June 22.

Taiwan's population aged 15 and over stood at 19.413 million in May,consisting of 11.3 million labor force and 8.113 million non-labor force,with a labor participation rate of 58.21%,DGBAS indicated.

In May,Taiwan's unemployment rate was lower than the 8.2%in UK and the US each,7.3%in Canada,6.7%in Germany,4.6%in Japan but higher than 3.2%in South Korea and Hong Kong each and 2.1%in Singapore,DGBAS pointed out.
