Famous Four Parts of Chinese Penmanship

In ancient China, four Treasures of the Study is an expression used to denote the brush, ink, paper and ink stone used in Chinese. They are gems of Chinese culture.

The wrighting Brushes are generally made from animal hair, or in certain situations or the first hair taken from a baby's head, classed as soft, mixed or hard.The ink stick is an artificial ink developed during the Han dynasty which Huimo is the most famous. The paper which was considered of highest value was that of the Jingxian in Anhui province known as Xuanzhi,it has a reputation for lasting "1,000 years." and the ink stone is used to grind the ink stick into powder.

Each of the four components parts of penmanship in ancient China had its unique and indispensable role to play in the ancient Chinese art of penmanship, and, indeed, in the art and practice of communication in general for one can draw a direct line between the nuanced communication,that was made possible by the development of the ink stick, the ink stone, the writing brush and paper, and the widespread and instantaneous communication potential that lies in a modern computer.
