The Kirgiz ethnic group, living in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, pursues monogamy in families and their marriage is not restricted in the ethnic group. In the past, however, some of the rich people had more than one wife influenced by the religion. The man had the power in the family. The senior had the highest prestige and the woman was discriminated against. The parents used to manage the marriage of their children.
