There is a particular fascination when art and function come together.One can appreciate not only the artist's vision and sensitivity,but also the utility it provides.This week,we feature the work of designer David Trubridge,currently exhibiting his work at the Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia,PA.David gratuated from Newcastle University in England in 1972 with a degree in naval architecture.After some time traveling,he settled in New Zealand,where he creates new designs and exhibits his work around the globe.

He has had works commissioned for London's Victoria and Albert Museum,exhibited at the Milan furniture fairs as well as the International Contemporary Furniture Fair and taught at the Vitra summer design school in Milan.Notably,in 2007,Trubridge received the John Britten award,New Zealand's highest design recognition.

His work evokes a sense of humanity,especially when we consider the interplay of utilitarian components and the forms that surround them.His method uses low impact,natural materials and processes,leaving a delicate footprint.At once,we sense the duality of the elements,and then become absorbed into its unity.His work expresses an inherent simplicity and trueness,paving the path of optimism for a sustainable and enriching future.
