Pakistan's Scrap Imports Amounted to 851,983 Mt, Increasing Two Percent

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 101,203 mt in December 2012, increasing 0.5 percent compared to November and down 45.1 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $46.6 million in December, rising 8.3 percent compared to November last year and down 26.4 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July-December 2012 period amounted to 851,983 mt, increasing two percent compared to the same period one year earlier. The value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports in the second half last year was $337 million, rising 18.3 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in December amounted to 129,671 mt, decreasing by 3.3 percent on year-on-year basis and down by 16.6 percent compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July-December 2012 period totaled 833,310 mt, increasing by 2.1 percent year on year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel imports was $687 million, rising 5.2 percent year on year.
