The Brazilian steel long producer Gerdau said that its net profits totaled BRL160 million in the first quarter of this year, growing by 12% from a quarter ago but slumping by 60% year on year. In the first quarter of this year, Gerdau realized sales revenues of BRL9.1 billion, up by 2% year on year. Meanwhile, its crude steel output totaled 4.41 million tons in the first three months of this year, increasing by 5% quarter on quarter but decreasing by 11% year on year. In addition, the shipments in the first quarter of this year rose by 5% quarter on quarter to 4.55 million tons.
