The US steel mills’ shipments totaled 7.9 million net tons in March, rising by 6.5% from a month ago but falling by 6.9% year on year, according to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Among them, the shipments of hot rolled sheets increased by 7%; those of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strips were up by 2% and those of cold rolled sheets remained flat, all compared to the figures in the same period of February. In the first three months of this year, the shipments totaled 23.6 million net tons, decreasing by 7.3% in comparison of 25.4 million net tons in the same period of a year ago.
