Taiwan recorded total export value of US$295.2 billion for 2014, increasing on year by 2.75%, and the value for 2015 is expected to increase by 3.58% on year, according to Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), a government-established organization specifically for boosting Taiwan’s exports.
In comparison, South Korea’s 2014 export value grew on year by 2.4%, January-November 2014 export values for Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and China rose on year by 0.3%, dropped by 3.5%, grew by 3.5% and 5.6% respectively, TAITRA said.
In 2014, TAITRA held 262 export promotional events abroad, invited 83,089 buyers to come to Taiwan for procurement and provided export-boosting services for Taiwan-based enterprises with 15,641 company-times in total, TAITRA said.
Stagnancy in Taiwan’s promoting free trade agreements with target trade partner countries and participation in the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership as well as slowdown in China’s economic growth would negatively influence Taiwan’s exports in 2015, TAITRA indicated.
