Turkey imported 495,064 tons of steel flat products including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel in January, soaring by 39.15% from a month ago and increasing by 14.5% year on year, according to statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
The country’s import values generated by steel flat products totaled US$325 million in January, jumping by 34.6% from a month ago and increasing by 3.25% year on year.
In January, Russia was the largest exporter of steel flats to Turkey with 90,795 tons, soaring by 85.8%; Ukraine was the second largest one with 73,164 tons, falling by 6.8% and France was the third largest one with 64,644 tons, increasing by 25.7%, all compared to those in the same period of a year ago.
In 2012, Turkey’s imports of steel flats amounted to 5 million tons, falling by 1.8% year on year.
