In April this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 117,325 metric tons, decreasing by 35.97 percent from 183,220 metric tons in March and up 118.06 percent compared to the same month of 2013, according to the monthly data released by the Port Hedland Port Authority.
In April, China's was the top destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland, receiving 71,850 mt, down 60.78 percent compared to March. No manganese ore shipments were made from Port Hedland to China in April 2013. In April this year, China was followed by Vietnam, which received 45,475 mt of manganese ore.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
