Taiwan-based LED chip makers will generate total production value of US$1.82 billion in 2013, growing 19.2% from 2012, according to Digitimes Research.
Among LED applications, lighting will account for 33% of the value, followed by 32% for LCD TV backlights, 11.6% for backlights used in smartphones, tablets and other portable devices, 10.8% for backlights used in notebooks and monitors, Digitimes Research indicated.
Japan-based LED chip makers will record total production value of US$3.386 billion with on-year growth of 12.8% in 2013, Korea-based ones US$2.053 billion with 6.2%, and China-based ones US$1.694 billion with 22.0%.
There will be 1,741 MOCVD sets around the world in 2013 and Taiwan-based makers will have 489 sets for a global share of 28.1%, followed by Japan with 24.1%, China with 22.3%, South Korea with 15.5, and Europe and the US with a combined 10.1%.
