Production Is to Continue at The Same Pace for The Time Being

The majority of softwood sawmills in the Baltic States was able to maintain cutting activities more or less at previous levels into November, in spite of a gradual softening in demand. Production is to continue at the same pace for the time being, especially as roundwood supplies have been secured to the end of the year in most instances. In this vein, companies in the Baltic States – unlike their Scandinavian competitors – do not feel compelled to curtail production at the moment. Lumber made in the Baltic States has sold on briskly as a rule in the last few weeks. However, sales possibilities are now likely to deteriorate gradually over the next few weeks, from what market insiders say. The competitive pressure is expected to grow as a result. Most sources reckon with a difficult overall market situation until the end of January or early February 2012. A seasonal improvement in sales opportunities is only expected from the middle of the first quarter onwards. Source: euwid-wood-products.com
