Taiwan had 490,000 jobless citizens in July 2012,equivalent to an unemployment rate of 4.31%which rose 0.1pp on month but fell 0.1pp on year,according to statistics released by the Directorate-General of Budget,Accounting and Statistics(DGBAS)on August 22.
Taiwan's population aged 15 and over stood at 19.442 million in July,consisting of 11.372 million for labor force and 8.07 million for non-labor force with a labor participation rate of 58.49%,DGBAS indicated.
In July,Taiwan's unemployment rate was lower than 8.3%in the US,8%in the UK,7.3%in Canada,and 6.8%in Germany but higher than 4.3%in Japan,3.3%in Hong Kong,3.1%in South Korea and 2%in Singapore,DGBAS noted.
