In the first four months of this year, the production of finished steel reached 18.1 million tons while apparent finished steel use was 21.7 million tons. Meanwhile, finished steel production in May 2013 came to 4.9 million tons, in line with the figures from 2012. However, the crude steel saw a 2% year-on-year decline. In January-May, production of crude steel in Latin America came to 27.3 million tons. Meanwhile, the nearly all countries in Latin America showed a trade deficit for January-April 2013 except Argentina and Brazil. Mexico led the imbalance of 1.1 million tons which Colombia, Peru and Chile also with significant trade deficits.
