Three-year contract for marine engine propellers, shafts The Swedish specialty steel and engineering group Scana Industrier ASA has begun a three-year supply agreement for forgings with Rolls-Royce plc for marine engine components. The agreement adds Scana to a list of specialty forging suppliers to Rolls, including Firth Rixson and Forgital, and involves a supply of forgings for controllable pitch propellers and fixed pitch propellers shaft lines, through 2014. Scana projected the value of the contract at $11 million annually. Three Scana subsidiaries (Scana Steel Björneborg, Scana Steel Söderfors, and Scana Machining) are involved in the supply program. Scana Steel Björneborg is a specialty forger of engineered components for numerous industrial segments, as well as forged raw forged and semi-finished billets. Scana Steel Söderfors produces specialty steel rolled products and rolled/forged rods and billets. Scana Machining handles heavy machining, welding, assembly, and testing. "Scana has a long history as a supplier to Rolls-Royce, which requires very high quality forged shafts for their product application.
