According to the data from the World Steel Association, Korea's largest steelmaker Posco ranked as world's fifth largest crude steelmaker in 2012, down from the fourth in 2011. ArcelorMittal remains the top one of crude steelmaker as it produced 94 million tons of steel in 2012. Japan's Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal ranks as the second largest, produced 48 million tons last year. Posco's production was less than 40 million tons. The merger of Japan's Nippon and Sumitomo Steel changes the ranks between those steelmakers. Korean's second largest steelmaker, Hyundai Steel's ranks the sixteenth by producing 17 million tons of crude steel.
