South Korea's Demand for HRC Would Rise by 4% Year on Year Said Posri

According to report released by the Posco Research Institute (Posri), South Korea’s demand for hot rolled coils (HRC) would only rise slightly by 1% from a year ago to 32.9 million tons this year, caused by weak demand from downstream buyers.

Nevertheless, Posri forecasted that the country’s HRC demand would rise by 4% year on year to 32.4 million tons in 2013, driven by an improvement in demand from the sectors such as manufacturing and pipe making.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s HRC imports totaled 3.93 million tons in the first nine months of this year, falling by 13% year on year. Among them, the HRC imports from China decreased by 4% to 1.62 million tons, based on the statistics released by the Korea Iron and Steel Association.
