In February this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 23.48 percent year on year and decreased by 13.62 percent compared to the previous month to 35,254 metric tons, following the 8.14 percent month-on-month decrease recorded in January, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports in February was $76.77 million, increasing by 6.48 percent year on year and down 11.67 percent compared to January.
Meanwhile, in the first two months of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 76,045 metric tons, increasing by 31.83 percent, with a value of $163.68 million, up 12.50 percent, both year on year.
In the first two months of this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan, which ranked as Turkey's top import source for the products in question in 2013, decreased by 43.56 percent year on year to 8,897 mt. In January-February this year, South Korea was Turkey's leading import source for stainless flat steel, supplying 23,188 metric tons, up 382.48 percent year on year. Italy followed South Korea, with its stainless flat steel exports to Turkey in the given period increasing by 273.61 percent year on year to 14,739 metric tons.
