Tablet PC Shipments to Exceed Notebook in 2013

U.S. market research firm NPD DisplaySearch (hereinafter referred to as "NPD") announced the Tablet PC market forecast on Jan.7. The report says, in 2013, global shipments of tablet PCs will reach 240 million units, exceeding notebook, whose shipment is expected to be 207 million units. In addition, world’s tablet PC market share is expected to be reached over half of the global market, higher than in 2012(about 38%) and 2011(26%).

According to NPD, global sales of tablet PCs will grow by 64% over 2012, mainly driven by a variety of tablet PC products.

Chinese tablet market is growing significantly. In 2012, China replaced EMEA to be world's second-largest market after North America. Under the promotion of local manufacturers, the tablet PC sales in Chinese market in 2013 will reach 65 million units and account for 27% of global market.

On the other hand, the North American market will continue to be the largest tablet PC market. Tablet PC sales in the North American market in 2013 is estimated to be about 85 million units, taking a share of 35% in the global market.
