AK Steel Posted a Net Loss of US$9.9 Million for The First Quarter of This Year

It's reported that Ohio-based AK Steel posted a net loss of US$9.9 million for the first quarter of this year, in comparison of a net loss of US$230.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2012. Meanwhile, AK Steel reported sales of US$1.37 billion for the first quarter, in comparison of sales of US$1.42 billion in a quarter ago. Besides, AK Steel's shipments in the first quarter dropped to 1.29 million short tons from 1.41 million short tons in a quarter earlier. In the first quarter of this year, the average prices increased by 5% quarter on quarter to US$1,062/short ton, boosted by higher value-added products and increased carbon spot market prices.
