In September this year, China exported a total of 4.92 million mt of finished steel, down by 4.47 percent year on year and down by 1.22 million mt month on month, as announced by the Chinese customs authorities on October 12. Meanwhile, China's finished steel import volume in September totaled 1.24 million mt, up by 3.3 percent year on year and rising by 10,000 mt month on month.
In the January-September period of the current year, China exported 46.9 million mt of finished steel, up by 14.6 percent, while its finished steel imports amounted to 10.48 million mt, down 0.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In September alone, China imported 74.58 million mt of iron ore, up 14.72 percent year on year. In the January-September period, China's imports of iron ore totaled 600.49 million mt, up nine percent year on year, while the average iron ore import price during the given period was $129.08/mt, declining by 4.28 percent year on year.
In the January-September period this year, China's total imports of semi-finished steel amounted to 430,000 mt, up by 61.5 percent year on year, and exports of metallurgical coke totaled 2.72 million mt, up 216.2 percent year on year.
