According to local news reports, US Steel has announced it will be halting steelmaking operations at its Gary, Ind, mill because poor weather conditions in the Great Lakes region has delayed incoming shipments of iron ore. Although it's still unclear how long shipments will be delayed, a spokesperson said that while they are hopeful the situation will fix itself once the weather begins to warm, an exact date is not yet known.
This announcement comes just one week after US Steel experienced significant roof damage at their Michigan mill, forcing that facility to cease steel production. The company has not yet said how long it will take to get steelmaking operations at that plant back up and running.
