Tiles Are Very Functional in The Bathroom

If you're renovating your bathroom chances are some brand new tiles will be featuring in the design somewhere, whether inside your shower cubicle or forming a backsplash above your sink.

Tiles are very functional in the bathroom, since they're easy to wipe clean and won't peel away like wallpaper or paint in a steamy environment.

But they can also play an aesthetic role, adding colour to a bathroom or creating intricate patterns.

And there's so much choice too, beyond plain white or black ceramic tiles. They come in numerous shapes and sizes,as well as colours, designs and materials.Just get creative.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, interior designer Mallory Mathison said tiles are often considered as a"utilitarian"addition to the bathroom.

"But it can be a beautiful accent,"she insisted, adding that a full wall of mosaic tiles can look"almost like your whole wall is covered in jewellery".

A backsplash is a great place to experiment with tiles. You can use lots of small ceramic, glass and even mirrored tiles in different colours or shades and create your own mosaic design.

And tiles don't have to be square,or even rectangular.Try triangular tiles around your bath or hexagonal tiles behind your toilet.

Grout can also be an area for experimentation.Don't feel you have to stick to white or grey tile grout. Why not mix things up and combine crisp white tiles with blue grout? There really are no rules.

Of course tiles are great for reflecting light around the room and will really sparkle under LED bathroom ceiling spotlights.

You can also install IP44 and IP65 lights above your bath or inside your shower to provide task illumination and bring your tiles to life at the same time.
