Bangladesh RMG Exporters Says That Myanmar Is Not a Threat to us

Myanmar is not a threat to us: Bangladesh RMG exporters
Although Myanmar is investing in a huge new port to attract the global buyers, Bangladesh readymade garment (RMG) exporters do not face any challenge from the neighboring country.

Mr. Nasir Uddin Chowdhary, first vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), told fibre2fashion, “Myanmar is still a new destination for the apparel buyers in the international market so we are not going to face any challenge from them.”

“Myanmar lacks skilled workers in the garment industry and entrepreneurship is yet to be established in the country,” he adds.

Talking about Bangladesh RMG sector, he says, “With 30 years of experience in clothing exports, we have gained the trust of our buyers and Myanmar has a long way to go.”

“However, if the country does not improve in infrastructure and supply of power then Myanmar can pose a challenge for Bangladesh garments exports,” he continues.

According to Mr. Shameem Ahmed, vice-president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA), there is an increase in demand for Bangladesh garments. “We are exporting garments to the global buyers from last 30 years so as a buyer they will never go to Myanmar,” he opines.
