Ford Is Planning to Invest $200m at Its Cleveland Engine

US carmaker Ford is planning to invest $200m at its Cleveland engine manufacturing plant in Ohio for the production of new 2.0L four-cylinder EcoBoost engines for the North American market.

The investment is part of the carmaker's aim to more than double its EcoBoost-powered vehicle sales globally in 2013.

Production is expected to begin in late 2014 at Cleveland plant, which currently manufactures Ford's 3.5L turbocharged engine in addition to a 3.7L V6 engine

The investment will allow the carmaker to shift the production of engines currently manufactured in Valencia plant in Spain to Ohio, while Valencia plant will solely manufacture the 2.0L EcoBoost for Ford of Europe-built vehicles.

Additionally, Valencia engine plant will be responsible for the production and shipping of parts required for the engines to be built at the Cleveland facility.

The 2.0L engines built in Cleveland will power carmaker's vehicles including Explorer, Edge, new Escape and Fusion, Focus ST, Taurus, new Lincoln MKZ as well as MKT Livery.

Ford had unveiled the turbocharged EcoBoost in 2009 and is aiming to increase the engine production to 1.6 million in 2013, which represents an increase of 100,000 units compared to the company's earlier target.
