Analog semiconductor maker Skyworks Solutions Inc of Woburn, MA, USA has unveiled a highly integrated 5GHz front-end module for wireless connectivity, Bluetooth and mobile applications that exceeds 802.11n system requirements.
The SKY65535-11 integrates a power amplifier (PA), a low-noise amplifier (LNA) with bypass, and a single-pole-double-throw (SPDT) transmit/receive (T/R) switch in a 16-pin, 2.5mm x 2.5mm x 0.45mm, quad-flat-no-lead (QFN) package.
Because the solution provides a direct connection to the battery with a 3.6V nominal supply voltage that removes the need for regulators and associated components, the module reduces the overall bill of material costs and space requirements on the circuit board, says Skyworks. The device draws about 175mA of current at +17.5dBm of linear output power at the ANT port (pin 13) with a 64 QAM, 54 Mbps signal. Transmit gain is 29dB, while receive gain is 11dB.
Further features include an enable/disable function that facilitates power saving during off mode, and an integrated power detector with 20dB of dynamic range that delivers closed-loop power control within the system.
