Nampak Flexible has created a new packaging for Nestlé’s Alpo and Vitagen dog food brands. US-based Avery Denison's Flexis Air Valve is used for the packaging.
The products, which were earlier packed in poly woven bags, are now available in hermetically sealed bags made from a laminate of nylon and white opaque LDPE to better protect the brands besides reducing the risk of any quality issues.
Produced by the company in Cape Town, the latest packaging design includes narrow gussets for semi-automatic filling processes, as well as punch hole handles for ease of carrying.
The valve is applied inline on the bagging machine and includes a membrane, baffle film as well as permanent adhesive to release any air pressure and protect against moisture.
Nampak Flexible technical manager Don Mac Farlane said, "Since the hermetic seal means that the bags are totally airtight, the valve prevents them from bursting uring transport and handling. The stronger substrate is also puncture resistant."
The Alpo bags are gravure printed in eight colors, while the Vitagen bags are flexo printed in eight colors. The multi-faceted construction enables the flexibility of a variety of merchandising strategies and techniques for increased visibility and sales.
