Corning Inc. plans to showcase the latest advancements in its Gorilla Glass and optical fiber cables at next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The annual event is an internationally known showcase for new technology.

Thousands of companies use the show, which opens Tuesday at the Las Vegas Convention Center, to unveil new products and offer demonstrations to media and industry professionals.

Corning Inc. will demonstrate Gorilla Glass with antimicrobial and antireflective properties. The company will also showcase its Gorilla Glass for touch notebook computer screens, as well as for large-format applications.

Corning, eBay and Planar Systems will "combine their expertise in specialty materials, software and digital signage display to present retail applications of the future," Corning Inc. said in a news release Thursday.

"Show attendees can enjoy a retail experience without ever setting foot in a store by way of a visionary demo simulating an 84-inch diagonal window storefront," the release says.

While Gorilla Glass is widely used now as cover glass for smartphones and tablets, Corning Inc. is also developing versions of it for a wide array of uses in homes, vehicles and public settings.

Corning also plans to showcase its Thunderbolt and USB 3.Optical cables at CES, used to connect computers and other devices. The optical cables can transmit video and data at "incredible speeds and over longer distances," according to the company, and are tough enough to be "bent, squeezed, and tangled."
