German carmaker Volkswagen (VW) is planning to introduce two new sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) in the coming years to expand its lineup.
The move is part of the company's plans to overtake General Motors and Toyota Motor sales in deliveries.
Peter Thul, a spokesman for VW, was quoted by Bloomberg as saying that one of the new models will be bigger than the Tiguan SUV to appeal to US drivers and provide a seven-seat alternative to a minivan.
According to Thul, the other SUV will be a compact model smaller than the Tiguan.
From January to September 2012, the company's sales increased 9.7% to 6.71 million, compared to 6.11 million units for the same period last year due to growth in China and the US.
In China, Volkswagen sold 2 million cars for the first nine months of 2012, representing an increase of 18.5%.
