UK's Food Standards Agency Has Confirmed The Level of Horse Meat Contamination in Findus

The UK's Food Standards Agency has confirmed the level of horse meat contamination in Findus UK branded lasagne stood at 60%.

The lasagne, which was manufactured on behalf of Findus by French group Comigel, was withdrawn from sale on Monday (4 February). However, confirmation of the contamination was not given until yesterday.

The FSA said there was "no evidence" to suggest a food safety risk. However, the regulator has required Findus UK to test for phenylbutazone, a veterinary drug commonly used on horses.

In a separate announcement, the FSA revealed the high level of contamination in the Findus lasagne and Tesco beef burgers - which previously tested positive - has prompted it to ask the police authorities in the UK and Europe to launch an investigation.
