China-based smartphone vendor Oppo Mobile is to challenge the sale of HTC Butterfly from HTC by promoting globally its 5-inch model, the Oppo Find 5, according to industry sources.
The Oppo Find 5, launched in Beijing recently, is on par with the Chinese-version HTC Butterfly in terms of hardware specifications, including a 1080p, 440ppi display and quad-core CPU with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, the sources noted.
However, there is a sharp difference between the HTC Butterfly and the Oppo Find 5; the former model carries a suggested retail price of CNY4,799 (US$770), while the latter one is available at CNY2,998, the sources indicated.
Oppo has said it plans to launch the 5-inch model in a number of overseas markets in the first quarter of 2013, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Japan, and Singapore, among other markets.
