US based automaker Chrysler Group is planning to invest about $240m in three Michigan facilities to increase engine capacity and create about 1,250 new jobs.
The company will invest $198m to produce the Pentastar V-6 engine at the Mack I Engine Plant, adding 250 new jobs.
According to the company, Mack I Engine Plant is expected to begin the production of Pentastar engines in early 2014.
Chrysler will also invest $40m in the Trenton North Engine Plant to add a flexible production line that will manufacture Pentastar engine and the Tigershark (I-4) engine.
The $40m investment will enable the company to adjust capacity of either the Pentastar or the Tigershark engine, currently built at the Dundee Engine Plant, to meet the market demand, the company said.
In addition, the company is also planning to create 1000 new jobs at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant by adding a third shift in March of 2013 to produce the 2013 Ram 1500.
The announcement brings total Chrysler Group's investments in its US facilities to nearly $4.75bn since June 2009 and add nearly 6,000 hourly jobs.
