Manna Organic Has Issued a Multi-State Recall of Soybean Sprouts and Tofu Products

Manna Organics,a company based in Newark,New Jersey,has issued a multi-state recall of various soybean sprouts and tofu products in the US as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products were distributed to various restaurants,retailers,and distributors in New York,New Jersey,Pennsylvania,Massachusetts,Virginia,Maryland,Connecticut,Georgia,Illinois,and Texas,on or after 17 July 2012.

This recall affects the following products-Soonyeowon Soybean Sprouts,Soybean Sprouts,Soonyeowon Healthy Soybean Sprouts,Jinga Firm Tofu,Jinga Soft Tofu,Soonyeowon Firm Tofu,Soonyeowon Soft Tofu,Soonyeowon Silken Tofu,Tofu Large Bucket(30 pcs),10 pcs.Tofu,5 pcs.Tofu,Soon Tofu,Soy Milk,and Small Tofu.

The potential for contamination was identified after random testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a 16-ounce package of Soonyeowon Soybean Sprouts.As a precaution,the company is initiating a product wide recall.

Till date,no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children,frail or elderly people,and others with weakened immune systems.Although healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever,severe headache,stiffness,nausea,abdominal pain and diarrhea,Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
