In the January-May period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China (from a total of 80 shipbuilding enterprises) amounted to 17.19 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 23.7 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI).
In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 13.75 million dwt, up 44.2 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 103.51 million dwt, down 23 percent year on year and down 3.2 percent compared to the end of 2012.
In the January-May period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 14.16 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 24.6 percent year on year and accounting for 82.4 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China. In the given period, China's new ship export orders amounted to 12.32 million dwt, up 80.1 percent year on year and constituting of 89.6 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of May, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 87.05 million dwt, down 24.1 percent compared with the same period of 2012 and constituting of 84.1 percent of total ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
In the first five months, the total industrial output of the 80 shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to RMB 135.7 billion ($22.1 billion), down 17.5 percent year on year. Total operating revenue and gross profit of the enterprises in question amounted to RMB 84.1 billion ($14 billion) and RMB 2.47 billion ($401 billion), down 22.4 percent and 59.3 percent respectively, both year on year.
In the January-May period of this year the aggregate shipbuilding output of the 39 large and medium-sized shipbuilding enterprises in China totaled 14.64 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 26.7 percent year on year. In the given period, the new ship orders of the 39 enterprises in question amounted to 12.78 million dwt, up 62.2 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship orders on the books of these large and medium-scale shipbuilding enterprises totaled 95.38 million dwt, down 20.9 percent year on year.
