JLR Has Begun Feasibility Study to Build Third Manufacturing Plant in India

Tata Motors' luxury car making subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has begun feasibility study to build third manufacturing plant in India, either in Pune (Maharashtra) or Sanand (Gujarat).

The proposed facility will manufacture the new Defender with a capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 units per year and the unit is also expected to have an engine plant with a capacity of manufacturing 50,000 units per year.

JLR said that the feasibility study report is expected to be released by second half of 2012 and the facility is expected to be completed by the middle of 2015.

According to JLR, the new facility will be a separate facility from its current assembly plant at Chikhale near Pune, where it assembles Freelander SUV.

JLR reported 29% rise in its sales in FY 2012 to 3,14,433 units and is planning to invest between GBP6-7bn to launch a series nearly 40 products in the next five years.
