The availability of 100 Gigabit Ethernet(100GbE)services has been announced across Eurofiber's Netherlands and Belgium network based on the DTN platform of Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale,CA,USA,a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits(PICs).
Eurofiber operates a highly dense fiber-optic network that extends through the Netherlands,Belgium and Germany. The network spans 13,000km,with more than 5400 connection sites and 590 industrial estates.Eurofiber specializes in providing managed dark fiber connections,Ethernet services from 10Mbps and dense wavelength-division multiplexing(DWDM)-based optical transmission services to service providers and businesses throughout the region.Eurofiber first deployed the DTN platform in 2009.
Infinera says that, with a DWDM network based on its DTN platform,Eurofiber can now extend its product portfolio by offering 100GbE services, enabling it to meet the rapidly growing bandwidth demands from Internet exchanges, data centers, cable companies and Internet service providers.
"About eight years ago,the first 10GbE services entered the market,"says Eurofiber's managing director Bart Oskam."At that time,10Gb/s was a lot of bandwidth, even for Internet exchanges.Today, given the pace in which the demand for bandwidth is increasing, the demand for 100GbE connections will grow much faster,"he adds."Rather than aggregating multiple 10GbE links to increase capacity,it is often more efficient to simply deploy a single 100GbE connection. The Infinera DTN enables these new 100GbE services from our existing network."
The DTN platform is designed for optical transport network operators and features 10GbE,40GbE and 100GbE service interfaces for flexible applications across regional,long-haul and subsea deployments. In addition,DWDM line-cards support 40Gb/s-per-wavelength coherent optical transmission, allowing the DTN platform to scale up to 6.4 terabits per second(Tb/s)of transmission capacity per fiber. The widely deployed DTN platform pioneered the integration of DWDM optical transmission with OTN digital switching in a single system without performance compromise, boosting network efficiencies.Powered by PIC technology, the DTN platform enables global network operators a simple, scalable and efficient solution to migrate their networks according to their bandwidth needs, says Infinera, whose optical transport solution is deployed by 99 customers globally.
