Italian biopolymer producer API and packaging machinery manufacturer Sacmi have joined forces to develop a new 100% biodegradable mineral water bottle cap.
According to API, the compostable cap has been made from a compound belonging to the company's Apinat Bio range.
The compounds are said to possess chemical structure and versatility and can easily be processed using widely available technology. They can also be used in industries such as footwear, agriculture and packaging.
API claims that the molten material's rheology and behavior make it suitable for the cap-making compression process.
The project will be promoted on a 'green tour' by both companies at the upcoming Drinktec and K'2013 shows.
