Talian Carmaker Fiat Is Planning to Manufacture All The Jeep Models in China

Italian carmaker Fiat is planning to manufacture all the Jeep models in China due to the rise in demand for its vehicles.

The carmaker is negotiating with its Chinese partners the Gunangzhou Automobile Group to resume Jeep production in the country following its production halt in 2009.

Fiat and Chrysler in Asia chief operating officer Mike Manley said the volume opportunity for the firm is very significant.

"We're reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity" as well as "should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio," Manley said.

"We've grown much stronger in Asia to make up or compensate for some of the difficulties in Europe.

"Europe will be in "very difficult, tough times" through at least 2013."

Fiat had acquired Chrysler, the earlier manufacturer of Jeeps, in 2009.

Initially, Fiat is planning to produce about 140,000 cars per year, with final plans of manufacturing 500,000 units per year.

During the initial nine months of 2012, Chrysler reported 22% rise in sales to 153,154 units, of which the Jeep brand reported 54% rise in sales to 117,189 units during the period.
