SABIC Introduced New Multimodal Grades to Its High Density Polyethylene Portfolio

SABIC has introduced new multimodal grades to its high density polyethylene (HDPE) portfolio for blow molding applications.

The grades include SABIC HDPE Vestolen A BI5822 and SABIC HDPE Vestolen A BI5828, which deliver environmental stress-cracking resistance (ESCR).

According to the company, the new grades have been developed to meet the increasing demands for multimodal products including bottles and containers within household, industrial and chemical (HIC) applications.

In a test, the company claims that the ESCR achieved for new multimodal grades is more than double the ESCR recorded by comparable bi/multi modal materials currently available in the market.

SABIC's new multimodal grades are said to have properties such as high performance, stiff and lightweight, enabling improved weight-out and cycle times.

SABIC business manager HDPE Mario Scholle said the company offers high performing multimodal grades to its customers to enhance their products.

"Moreover, we will expand this portfolio with new grades from our European and Saudi Arabian production facilities in the near future," added Scholle.

The company will also introduce an additional new range of multimodal grades which covers the entire range of blow molding applications: varying from small bottles and containers for HIC applications, up to standard and UN approved jerry-cans and large 220L drums.

SABIC's multimodal grades have better mechanical properties as against other conventional materials with identical density and melt flow, the company said.

These new multimodal resins are also said to be helpful in optimizing the production process, supporting converters to enhance their sustainability performance.
