According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the first quarter of the year Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 277,286 mt, decreasing 24 percent compared to the same period of 2012 and down 15 percent compared to the previous quarter.
Turkey imported 175,021 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine in January-March this year, down 21.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. However, Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron source in the first three months, followed by Russia with 88,069 mt of pig iron exports to Turkey, down 24.2 percent year on year but increasing 71 percent over the previous quarter.

In March this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 85,393 mt, down 35.3 percent compared to the previous month and down 24.1 percent from the same month of 2012. In March this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $422/mt according to TUIK data, falling from the average of $492/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in March of the current year was $36 million, down 40.3 percent compared to March 2012.
