Burrows Paper Has Started a Simultaneous Conversion and Expansion Project at Its Plants

US-based packaging products supplier Burrows Paper has started a simultaneous conversion and expansion project at its plants.

The project is part of the company's plan to expand Burrows domestic paper and global packaging business groups.

Under the plan, the company will shut down its 90-inch wide paper machine, PM2 and start repurposing the machine components and space to another paper machine, PM3 in July 2014.

With the repurposing of a smaller paper machine, the company expects a series of improvements including better traffic flow, safety enhancements, increased productivity on PM3 as well as the ability to focus on other equipment to address customer requests.

Burrows president and chief operating officer Rose Mihaly said, "During the transition, we will work closely with each person to align skills and interests with job opportunities in our Mill Street and Mohawk Valley mills, and in other Burrows facilities."

The conversion and expansion project is expected to incur an investment of about $7m and would be completed by the end of 2014.
