China Quickly Become The World's Leading Market for Mocvd Equipment in 2010

Due to government policies on providing subsidies for MOCVD equipment, China quickly become the world's leading market for MOCVD equipment in 2010. However, market conditions and lack of trained employees has caused the speed of newly-added MOCVD equipment in China to slow down drastically. China-based GCL Photoelectric Technology Holdings expected to add 500 new MOCVD sets in 2011, but has reportedly put a temporary hold on the LED businesses. GCL Photoelectric's parent company is solar firm GCL-Poly Energy Holdings. According to statistics, the number of newly-added MOCVD sets in China from January-July 2011 exceeded 200. The revised figure of total number of newly-added MOCVD sets in China is down to 300-400 from 500-600 in previous predictions. Industry sources noted within the next year, 10% of the LED firms are expected to shutdown operations. Surviving firms are expected to continue their strong reliance on government funding. Industry observers indicated China's commercial LED lighting market has not yet opened. The initial stage of the market depends on government and business procurement orders to facilitate the lighting industry. Source: www.digitimes.com
