In stand D31 at LuxLive (the UK’s biggest lighting show) at ExCel London (19-20 November), Plessey of Plymouth, UK is presenting the results of its partnership with Zeta Specialist Lighting of Bicester, UK, showcasing Zeta’s ZD LED Bulkhead, a new solid-state lighting product based on Plessey’s gallium nitride on silicon MaGIC (Manufactured on GaN-on-Si I/C) high-brightness LED die.
The Zeta ZD LED Bulkhead is said to eliminate point-source glare and solve any heating issues associated with LED lighting in an IP-rated housing. Also, higher efficiency leads to longer lamp life and reduced maintenance and energy consumption costs.
This product is the result of a three-year collaboration with LED and solar-powered lighting system maker Zeta Specialist Lighting, following Zeta securing grant approval from the UK Government under the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI) in 2013. Zeta designs and manufactures intelligent and robust products for applications including custom luminaires for street lighting, amenity lighting, signage and LED commercial lighting solutions.
“As the lead partner in the project, we have invested heavily in plant and machinery, test equipment and staff, and the imminent launch of the Zeta ZD LED Bulkhead with Plessey's GaN-on-Si MaGIC LEDs is the first of many new lighting innovations,” says Zeta’s managing director Phil Shadbolt. “Working in partnership, it is our aim to incorporate Plessey die into as many Zeta products as possible in the future,” he adds.
“Zeta has an excellent reputation for high quality and innovation and has won several awards for its lighting products,” comments Plessey’s marketing director David Owen. “Recent performance improvements in the efficacy of our LEDs have enabled Plessey’s GaN-on-silicon MaGIC LEDs to be competitive with any LED technology,” he adds. “Plessey’s technology has already shown how we can overcome what up to now has been a significant cost barrier in large-scale LED illumination.”
