Production Capacity of Trucks, Crossovers in Us Is Developped by Hyundai

Hyundai Motor is considering a plan to boost its production of trucks and crossovers in the US to resolve production constraints, after its market share dipped.

The carmaker's share in the US car and light-truck was about 4.9%, a decline from 5.1% recorded in 2011 and the carmaker's US gains are expected to decline this year due to tight production.

Hyundai is planning to boost the production at its assembly plant in Alabama in late 2012 and will add a third shift at its Montgomery facility to increase its capacity by 20,000 units in 2012 and by nearly 60,000 units on an yearly basis.

Alabama facility currently manufactures about 300,000 Sonata sedans and Elantra small cars per year.

During the January to June 2012, Hyundai's passenger-car sales to retail buyers increased by 17% to 267,743 units, beating Ford's 8.1% rise to 250,718 units during the same period.
