Chinese construction equipment company XCMG has received its first order for its 3600-tonne (4,000 ton) crawler crane, which it says sets a record for being the world's largest crawling crane in terms of tonnage. The order came from the construction wing of Sinopec, China's state-owned petroleum exploration company, which worked with XCMG to develop the monster crawler, designed to meet the demand for major hoists in the petrochemical, oil, nuclear power and chemical industries. The XGC88000 crawling crane has a maximum load of 79,800 tonne-metres, and according to the company is the first successful sale of a 4000 ton-class unit in the world. According to XCMG chairman Wang Min, its emergence shows China's rise in the high-end, large-tonnage hoisting machine market, with the company now making technology to world-class levels. "Having recently completed the manufacturing phase, the product is set for whole-unit alignment and the sales deal is signed on the basis of the progress," he said. XCMG have a range of large cranes that have been put to good use in China's energy sector, and its 1000 ton-class, 2000 ton-class crawling cranes and 1000 ton-class all-terrain canes have played major roles in large-scale wind power and petrochemical construction projects in China.
