According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.84 million metric tons in April this year, decreasing by 5.76 percent year on year and down 4.59 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 19.10 million metric tons in the first four months of this year, decreasing by 0.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2013.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in April this year. Iran's estimated DRI output was 1.25 million metric tons in the given month, increasing by 0.89 percent year on year. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in April, with estimated outputs of 1.24 million mt, 525,000 mt and 328,615 mt respectively.
