A new bag-in-box pack for storing fruit juice has won an international award for its simplicity and packaging functionality.
Called Ice Box, the pack was the winner of the Packaging Concept category at the Art of Packaging Awards held in New York.
The concept was created by packaging designer and manufacturer Smurfit Kappa Poland, and it also took third place in the Overall Award which covers all categories.
The 5L bag-in-box pack is designed to be easy to transport from shop to home, and make the best use of available kitchen space.
The Ice Box has been sized to fit onto most fridge shelves, and the tap can be used to pour the juice directly from the fridge, eliminating the need to remove the pack.
It is also possible to add paper cups as an accessory for on-the-go consumption.
The colourful cups are the only strong colour on the packaging, suggesting the colour of the fruit from which the juice was made.
The Ice Box outer pack is made of recyclable and renewable corrugated board, while the minimalistic print underlines the ecological design of the product.
When two of the packages are placed next to each other, the graphic elements depicting apples form a larger graphic.
An additional feature is a three-dimensional cut-out of the word ‘pure’, to demonstrate the ecological purity of the packaging and the pure juice inside.
