The ongoing meat labeling scandal has intensified with horsemeat being identified in certain food products across multiple regions including Romania, Czech Republic, and Hong Kong.
The Czech agriculture and food inspection authority has ordered Tesco supermarket in the city of Pilsen to withdraw frozen Nowaco Lasagne Bolognese after the DNA tests showed two batches of the product contained horsemeat.
Similarly, the Food Safety Authority of Romania has found horsemeat labeled as beef in a warehouse following an investigation. The agency noted that the meat was sourced from a cold storage in Alba county.
Both the agencies have started an investigation of slaughterhouses and meat suppliers in the respective countries in response to a European-wide scandal.
Meanwhile, the scandal has spread to Asia with an imported lasagne brand being recalled in Hong Kong. Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety has ordered the supermarket chain ParknShop to withdraw lasagne products that were manufactured by frozen food firm Findus..
