Pakistan's Iron and Steel Scrap Imports Amounted to 119,921 Mt in April This Year

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 119,921 mt in April this year, increasing 4.6 percent compared to April last year and up 3.1 percent month on month, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $46.35 million in April, rising 37.4 percent compared to the same month of 2012 and up 6.8 percent compared to March.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July 2012-April 2013 period amounted to 1.5 million mt, rising 12 percent on year-on-year basis. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $545 million, rising 22 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in April amounted to 208,090 mt, increasing by 17.6 percent on year-on-year basis and up 22.3 percent compared to the previous month, with a value of $165 million, rising 24.2 percent over April 2012. The country's iron and steel imports in the July 2012-April 2013 period totaled 1.7 million mt, increasing 18.9 percent year on year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel imports was $1.3 billion, rising 14.9 percent year on year.
