Bole Lemi Industrial Park, the first industrial park to be managed by the Ethiopian Federal Government, will have garment manufacturing units, alongside other industries.
For the construction of the industrial park, the Ethiopian Ministry of Industry has signed a 1.2 billion birr agreement for civil works with 13 selected contractors.
The contractors were selected on the basis of their work records in previous government projects rather than the usual bidding process,so as to ensure speedy completion of the project.
The Bole Lemi Industrial Park would be spread across 156 hectares and would initially have five industrial sheds, four office blocks and space for other industrial activities.
Once operational, the industrial park is likely to generate employment for about 50,000 people, including those engaged in apparel manufacturing.
Few export-oriented garment units are also expected to come up in the industrial park.
